Environmental footprint

Consumers should consider the overall environmental footprint of the proteins they choose to consume. This necessarily broadens the consideration of impacts not just on the ocean environment but the impacts on land and in the air.

Carbon footprint

In 2012, American Seafoods Group commissioned a comprehensive analysis of the carbon footprint of its various products. This analysis included benchmarking the carbon footprint of its products compared to other proteins. The results show that the products produced by American Seafoods are among the most “carbon-friendly” proteins available.

Ozone depletion

American Seafoods Company is leading our sector in transitioning away from the use of ozone-depleting refrigerants. American Seafoods has converted its entire fleet from systems that use R-22 to ammonia-based systems. Not only does this help preserve the world’s ozone layer, it will reduce our overall carbon emissions by another eight percent.

Fresh water

American Seafoods Company’s method of protein production has virtually no impact on the supply of freshwater, one of the world’s major environmental concerns. Using state of the art “reverse-osmosis” technology, our vessels produce all of our freshwater needs by converting sea water to fresh.
